[Man's fate] contains the root and the sum of all creation's drive, and
this it is that makes it so entrancing, exhilarating and perilous. And
such is Man: he would rather balance on the tightrope of his own creation,
razor-thin and sagging in the middle, over the abysmal valley of his own
folly, than walk in safety starting meadowlarks. It is in danger and in
the times that most try his soul that he flourishes.
