When traveling, the sages say, one must always be prepared to accept local
customs. Yet there are areas of this very kingdom where one might find it
customary to tax a wizard into poverty; to insist a wizard should not be paid,
for magic exists only for the common good; or even to tar and feather a wizard
unsuccessful at his task. Contrary to the sages, when one is traveling in these
areas, one should be prepared to avoid local customs altogether.
